Getting Started

Create your classroom before your roster arrives

You don’t need your student list before you start setting up Seating Chart. Build the room first and add your class when you’re ready.

School-year setup does not always happen in a neat order. Seating Chart is designed so the room can be ready before the student list is.

Prepare the room first

  1. 01

    Create the classroom

Start with the physical room where you teach.

  2. 02

    Place the desks

Arrange desks in the positions and orientations that match the room.

  3. 03

    Add useful furniture

Include the classroom landmarks that make the layout easy to recognize.

  4. 04

    Choose a useful view

Orient the chart so it makes sense from where you usually stand or sit.

  5. 05

Return when the roster is ready

Create the class, add or import students, and decide where everyone belongs.

Why this order works

The classroom layout belongs to the room, not to a single roster. Once it is built, the same physical room can support each class that meets there.

Each class still keeps its own students and seating arrangement.
